Keramik
„Meine Keramik war grob, rissig, braun. Ich habe immer gesagt, der Ton kommt aus der Erde, und so soll er auch aussehen. Damit hatte ich es schwer. Die Keramik sollte ja glänzen und funkeln, nach Möglichkeit.“ Auch Glasuren hat Bauer sparsam verwendet. Er wollte den Charakter des Tons „nicht zukleistern“, nennt er es. „Es ging mir immer um den Erdcharakter.“
Seine Keramiken sind einfache Kuben, manchmal wie Urnen, aber das ist nicht beabsichtigt. „Keramik kommt für mich aus Asien, daran habe ich mich unbewusst angelehnt. Vieles hat so einen Memorialcharakter. Sicher ist es keine heitere Sache.“ Es sind keine Gefäße, auch wenn etwas hinein gefüllt werden könnte. Gestreckte Formen, Figurinen, gibt es auch, sie entstanden eher zufällig, als eine Hand nach einem Bruch das Training brauchte. So geht es manchmal zu in der Kunst.

He didn’t want to „plaster over“ the character of the clay, he says. „I was always interested in the earth character.“
His ceramics are simple cubes, sometimes like urns, but that is not intentional. „For me, ceramics come from Asia, I unconsciously based myself on that. A lot of it has a memorial character. It’s certainly not a cheerful thing.“ They are not vessels, even if something could be put in them. There are also elongated forms, figurines, which came about more by chance when a hand needed training after a break. That’s how it sometimes goes in art.
